Country Context

Bangladesh’s humanitarian and development landscape is complex and multifaceted, shaped by interconnected factors ranging from high population density and persistent poverty to extreme climate vulnerability. With the majority of the country’s population—well over half—exposed to recurring floods, cyclones, and droughts, Bangladesh ranks among the countries most prone to climate disaster risk in the world. These challenges are compounded by inadequate infrastructure, with massive gaps in access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare.

Bangladesh also hosts one of the world’s largest refugee populations, with over a million Rohingya refugees from neighboring Myanmar living in overcrowded camps. Conditions in these camps are fragile at best, with limited resources and exposure to extreme weather posing significant risks to health and wellbeing. And among both host communities and refugee populations, vulnerable groups including women, children, and the elderly are most susceptible to the risks of malnutrition and disease, as well as limited access to education, protection, and sustainable livelihood.

Our Work in Bangladesh

Human Appeal has been working in Bangladesh since 2015, delivering both emergency humanitarian assistance and long-term development programs to support vulnerable communities. In response to natural disasters and ongoing hardship, we provide immediate relief through food aid and essential supplies to help families meet their basic needs. Our team also supports refugee communities, including Rohingya families, with access to food, clean water, sanitation, and healthcare services.

Alongside our emergency response efforts, Human Appeal also invests in sustainable development projects to improve quality of life and help communities meet their needs with dignity. We also support vulnerable street children through an outreach center in Dhaka, providing counselling, education, nutritious meals, healthcare, vocational training, and safe spaces. Across all our work in Bangladesh, Human Appeal works closely with local communities and partners to deliver practical support and promote dignity and resilience.
